WHAT IS PAN?

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is an identification number given to all taxpayers in India.

PAN is an electric system through which all the information for a person/ company is recorded against a single PAN number.

It acts as a primary key for storage of information and is shared across the country. Hence no two entities can have same PAN.

Documents required for the registration of PAN:

  • Individual Applicant: proof of identity and proof of address: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, and Driving License.
  • Hindu Undivided Family An affidavit of the HUF issued by the head of HUF along with proof of identity and proof of address details.
  • Company registered in India: Certificate of Registration issued by Registrar of Companies.
  • Firms/ Partnership (LLP) Certificate of Registration issued by the Registrar of Firms/ Limited Liability Partnerships and Partnership Deed.
  • Trust: Copy of Trust Deed or a copy of the Certificate of Registration Number issued by a income tax Commissioner.
  • Society Certificate of Registration: Number from Registrar of Co-operative Society or income tax Commissioner
  • Foreigners: Passport Person of Indian origin / overseas citizen of Indian card issued by the Indian Government Bank statement of the residential country Copy of NRE bank statement in India

Pan card can be applied in two ways:

  • Online
  • Offline

Offline mode of application of PAN card:

  • A copy of the form 49 A has to be downloaded and printed from the NSDL Site or the UTIITSL website
  • The form has to be filled and all he supporting documents need to be attached.
  • The form along with its annexure have to be submitted to the nearest NSDL processing center. The address of all the processing centers can be accessed on the TIN website of the government.
  • They will issue acknowledgment as the proof of the documents submitted.
  • After examining, the PAN card will be dispatched to the registered office for the company.
  • Application fees for registration is Rs. 110.

What is instant PAN allotment?

  • This facility is for allotment of Instant PAN (on near-real time basis) for those applicants who possess a valid Aadhaar number.
  • PAN is issued in PDF format to applicants, which is free of cost. The applicant is required to type in her/his valid Aadhaar number and submit the OTP generated on the registered mobile number.
  • Once the process is complete, a 15-digit acknowledgment number is generated. Once request is submitted, the applicant can check the status of the request at any time by providing her/his valid Aadhaar number and on successful allotment can download the PAN.
  • The applicant will also receive a copy of the PAN in the e-mail id registered with the Aadhaar database.

How to apply for instant PAN using Aadhar

a. To apply for PAN, please visit the e-Filing website of Income-tax department. (Url: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in)

b. Click the link- 'Instant PAN through Aadhaar'.

c. Click the link- 'Get New PAN'.

d. Fill in your Aadhaar in the space provided, enter captcha and confirm.

e. The applicant will receive an OTP on the registered Aadhaar mobile number; submit this OTP in the text box on the webpage.

f. After submission, an acknowledgement number will be generated. Please keep this acknowledgment number for future reference.

g. On successful completion, a message will be sent to the applicant's registered mobile number and e-mail id (if registered in UIDAI & authenticated by OTP). This message specifies the acknowledgement number.

How to download PAN:

a. To download PAN, please go to the e-Filing website of Income-tax department. (Url: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in)

b. Click the link- 'Instant PAN through Aadhaar'.

c. Click the link- 'Check Status of PAN'

. d. Submit the Aadhaar number in the space provided, then submit the OTP sent to the Aadhaar registered mobile number.

e. Check the status of application- whether PAN is allotted or not.

f. If PAN is allotted, click on the download link to get a copy of the e-PAN pdf.

Online mode of application of PAN card:

The first step of this process is to go the NSDL website and link on the application which says “ONLINE PAN APPLICATION”

FORM NO 49 A needs to be filled and filed up properly.

After filing the forms, all the documents needs to be attached as annexure to the form.

After filing up all the forms, it has to be submitted online.

An acknowledgment will be generated and the PAN will be delivered to the registered office the company.

After the acknowledgment is generated PAN card will be sent to the registered office within a span of 15-20 days.

A company auditor needs to be appointed within 30 days of the company's incorporation through Form ADT – 1 and sent to the ROC.

A company needs to apply for GST to conduct any business activities in the country. Having a GST number becomes mandatory if the company is engaging in interstate business, having an online store or having an annual turnover exceeding 20 lacs.

At the same time, the company needs to ensure GST is filed every month irrespective of any turnover in the company books.

The registration of the company name with the ROC does not ensure the protection of your name or brand. For complete ownership rights over your name, brand and logo, you need to apply for Trademark Registration.
