MSME stands for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. In a developing country like India, MSME industries are the backbone of the economy. These industries are also known as small- scale industries or SSIs. MSME registration is not yet made mandatory by the Government but it is beneficial to get one’s business registered under this because in terms of taxation, setting up business, credit facilities, loans etc.
Under the new definition, there will be no more distinction between Manufacturing and Service MSMEs.
• A Micro Enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed 1 crore rupees and turnover does not exceed 5 crore rupees;
• A Small Enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed 10 crore rupees and turnover does not exceed 50 crore rupees; and
• A Medium Enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceeds 50crore rupees and turnover does not exceeds 250 crore rupees.
MSME includes all establishment engaged either in manufacturing or rendering services but it does not include those enterprise which are engaged only in trading activities.
MSME registration is completely an online process. MSME online registration is to be done through government portal of udyamregistration.gov.in. The registration of MSMEs can be done under the following two categories in the portal-
1. For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with Entrepreneurs Memorandum -II and
2. For those having registration as UAM and for those already having registration as UAM through Assisted filing.
For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II:-
New entrepreneur and entrepreneurs having EM-II registration need to
• Click on the button ‘’For New Entrepreneurs who are not registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II’ shown on the home page for registering MSME.
• When we click on the ‘’ for new Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as MSME or those with EM-II” button on the homepage of the government portal, it opens the page for registration and asks to enter the Aadhar number and the name of the Entrepreneurs.
• After entering these details, ‘’ Validate and Generate OTP Button” is to be clicked.
• Once, OTP is received and entered, the PAN Verification page will opens.
• The entrepreneur must enter the ‘’ Type of Organization ‘’ and the PAN Number and click on the ‘’ Validate Pan “button.
• The entrepreneur must enter the ‘’ Type of Organization ‘’ and the PAN Number and click on the ‘’ Validate Pan “button.
• Once the details on the MSME registration form are filled, the “Submit and Get final OTP” button is to be clicked.
• The MSME online registration process will be completed.
• After verification of MSME registration form, which may take a few days, the Udyam Registration Certificate is issued.
Registration for Entrepreneurs already having Udyam Registration:-
Click on the button ‘’ for those having registration as UAM” or “For those having registration as UAM” or “For those already having registration as UAM through Assisted filing” shown on the home page of the portal.
• After that a page will open, where we have to enter the Udyog Aadhaar Number and then click on OTP option.
• OTP can be obtain either on mobile number or on email as filled in Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum.
• After entering OTP, registration details are to be filled on the MSME registration form and Udyam registration will be complete.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR MSME REGISTRATION:-
• Aadhaar Card
• Pan Card
There are no fees charged for filling and submitting the MSME registration form. The MSME registration is totally free on the Udyam portal.
After submitting the MSME registration form online, the Ministry of MSME will issue the Udyam Registration certificate or MSME certificate to the email ID of the entrepreneur after verification of the registration form submitted on the portal.
The Ministry will issue the MSME certificate after a few days from the submission of the registration form. The MSME registration certificate validity is for a life time. Thus, it requires no renewal.
To print MSME Certificate:-
• The entrepreneurs have to click on the ‘Print / verify ’tab and click on the Print Udyam Certificate option.
